World Information: The World of Mobius is a fantastical world millenia into the future. Originally Earth, the planet was mutated into what it is now due to a gene bomb by the alien creatures known as the Xorda that wiped out most of the human race and accidentally mutated the animal wildlife into intelligent humanoids.
A lot of the world is ravaged by rampant metallic structures and has pollution due to the ten year rule of Dr. Ivo Robotnik and his replacement Robo-Robotnik/Dr. Eggman. That isn't to say that the world isn't all doom and gloom as a lot of the world is still more mystical in some aspects and more medieval in its design.
An interesting aspect about this world is that most of the aspects of the Sonic games are very different. Most of the locations are not here and those that are are much different (such as Station Square being hidden inside a mountain) and Chaos Emeralds are actually quite plentiful, if only in its green colorization.
It should be noted that there are many, many Mobiuses in existence, so one like this is possible.
Personal History: https://archiesonic.fandom.com/wiki/Mina_Mongoose
Mina's history in this AU is similar to a point: Mina is still the shy and insecure girl whose life was upended by the arrival of Robo-Robotnik reclaiming the roboticized Mobians (Robians) and retaking Mobotropolis. She encountered an astral projection of the immortal mystic villain Mammoth Mogul, who granted her the power of super speed and planted a hypnotic suggestion in case he could use her against Sonic. However, that's where things changed. In this continuity, Mogul's weakened state and his haste while in an astral form accidentally filled her with more magic than he meant.
When Sonic the Hedgehog and Princess Sally Acorn discover Mina soon after, Mina's attempt to break away to continue her search for her mother set off the magic inside her, unleashing her super speed. Completely confused as to how it happened and scared out of her wits, the two comforted the girl and convinced her to stand down and they would help her figure out what happened. Escaping back to Knothole Village, the Freedom Fighters are hailed as heroes as Mina is examined for changes by Rotor Walrus and the kindly humanoid Overland known as Nate Morgan. The two are surprised as they note she is hopped up on Chaos Energy for unknown reasons.
However, when Robotnik made his latest move, invading the underground human city of Station Square, Mina was asked to join them, mostly because it would give Nate more time to study her and Amy Rose, the latter having used the artifact known as the Ring of Acorns to artificially age herself to be a teenager. Mina would find herself helping the citizens there when Perfect Chaos ran amok and later helped protect the city when Robotnik unleashed Silver Sonic Mk. II.
When the heroes returned to Knothole, a plan was made to make an attack on Robotropolis, which Mina stayed out of. However, when the plan ended with King Acorn in a coma, Mina was hit with guilt - with her speed, she could have made a difference and she stayed back because she felt she wasn't ready. Heartbroken, she decided to apologize to the royals for allowing the King to get hurt by her inaction, only to run into Sonic, who had stolen the mystical Sword of Acorns in an attempt to free his Uncle Chuck. Unwilling to let her hero do something horrible, Mina fought Sonic, which quickly went sideways when her magic potential went off upon grabbing the Sword of Acorns, blasting Sonic away. The light show drew the attention of others, allowing them to watch as the spider ninja Uma Arachnis stole away the Sword of Acorns in Mina's daze.
Though Sonic tried to explain the sword being stolen was his fault, Mina took full responsibility, claiming she stole the sword in a foolish attempt to make amends for the king's injury and it was her fault the sword was now in the possession of an enemy. Mina was initially jailed for the act, but was instead put under Sally's watchful eye when the princess objected, suggesting that had she and the others watched over her more, this wouldn't have happened.
Sally's kindness surprised Mina and she found herself growing close to the princess while Sally was thankful for Mina's presence as she had been growing distant from her old friends and she had someone with her not part of royalty. However, the happiness would come to an end when Kodos, a former warlord for the royal family years ago, went berserk and escaped Knothole, having been sent there for medical attention due to the poisonous pollution caused by Robotropolis. The incident lead to the Freedom Fighters being reunited and the Sword of Acorns being retrieved with Kodos and Uma both dying by their poisoning. The happiness was cut short when Mina, who had stayed behind, arrived to tell the others Nate had gone to Robotropolis to warn the other Overlanders of their situation.
Mina would follow the others into Robotropolis, leading to the rescue of roboticized Mobians thanks to the Sword of Acorns. However, Mina spotted Nate disappearing and followed him. Before Robotnik could use his robotic body to roboticize Nate, Mina got Nate out of the way, causing her to be struck instead. The magics inside her slowed the process enough and Mina got Nate to safety. However, horrified by her possible fate, Mina remained in Robotropolis, waiting to either be turned into a robot or perish by the poisons.
She would find shelter in the oddest of places - a royal room containing a mysterious golden pool known as the Source of All. Drawn by it, Mina found herself confronted by the mysterious entity, showing her various futures. Realizing that many of them were terrible futures where her surrender to her fate lead to Mobius' destruction, she begged for the Source for help. Realizing Mina would be a perfect vessel should its intended target, Sally, not submit, the Source imbued Mina's roboticized portions with its golden liquid, stopping the process and urging Mina to live.
When Sonic and Sally returned to Robotropolis on the assumption that Mina had long since been converted, they find Mina safe and sound, if not weakened by the poisoning. They are also able to rescue the Overlanders living in Robotropolis after they learn the truth about their situation. Their problems escalated when the original Robotnik found himself resurrected thanks to one of the other Robotnik's machines. The two tried to team up against the Freedom Fighters, but they were able to stop their little plan. However, the original Robotnik didn't disappear like the mainstream Robotnik did and disappeared, vowing to destroy both Sonic and the doppelganger.
Mammoth Mogul, growing desperate and needing power, ultimately tried to lure Sally, Mina and Tails to him. Joined by Sonic, the three learned that Mogul had in his clutches another Tails, amped up in his Super form. He revealed that this Tails was the real one, captured in secret and used as a power battery to regain his power. He lured Mina and Sally in order to use Mina's power and to steal back the Sword of Acorns for his own use. Here, he revealed the truth of Mina's power to her and he had every intention on stealing it back. Sally was able to help both Tails and Mina through their troubles - that no matter what, Tails was as real and alive as anyone else and Mina's powers were hers and they would always stand by her side.
Realizing what needed to be done, Mina was given the Sword of Acorns and Tails allowed himself to be used as power for the Sword, Mina channeling that power to blast Mogul, trapping him in his Chaos Emerald within his chest and freeing the real Tails. Mina was devastated by what she had to do, but was comforted by the trio, with Sally deciding that Mina was trustworthy enough to hold onto the Sword.
Soon after, the Xorda invaded Mobius, revealing the truth about Mobius' past and intending on finishing the job by eradicating all life on the planet. A massive threat to the entire world, all heroes and villains gathered to defeat this threat. When the Xorda was forced to retreat, they launched a super weapon known as the Quantum Dial, intending on pulling the entire solar system into a black hole. Despite their best efforts, nothing seemed to be able to get close to it.
Mina was granted a vision by the Source, giving them a way to save the day. Joined by Shadow and Knuckles, the latter of whom was also empowered by Chaos Energy, Mina and Knuckles used their powers to turn Sonic and Shadow Super, using their enhanced speed to shove the power of the Dial back in on itself. However, the Dial had one last trick up its sleeve and its explosion caused the hedgehogs to disappear, seemingly killed in an amazing heroic sacrifice, not realizing they had been sent into deep space.
With Mobius' greatest heroes gone, both Robotniks (the doppelganger long since calling himself "Eggman") began a campaign of conquest to take advantage of the disappearance. Mina, heartbroken by what happened, decided to step up to the plate and help defend Mobius from the mad doctors. She wasn't Sonic and she wouldn't replace him, but she would do her best to save her home, a job she would do admirably for a year before the hedgehogs returned...
Personality: On the outside, Mina Mongoose is a cheerful girl who has managed to survive numerous takeovers of the planet and her home. On the outside, she's excitable and curious with a love of singing and a hatred of computers (she just finds using computers boring, even if its needed). She enjoys being a caretaker at times, watching over younger kids and would happily tell stories if need be. On the inside is a fire-forged hero, created by mistakes and a desire to do good.
The Mina here is vastly different from her Prime Universe counterpart. Where the original Mina suffered from being shy and a lack of confidence, this Mina accidentally found the strength to push forward and become a better person. Getting involved in the adventures of the Freedom Fighters made Mina discover her own adventurous spirit, realizing right and wrong and learning that doing good for the sake of doing good felt... well, good.
This Mina isn't pushed by a desire to win Sonic's heart, innocent and misguided as it was, but instead to make up for mistakes she made in her early days as she believes that she could have saved King Acorn and believed that she could have protected herself and not tried to (poorly) attempt suicide after getting touched by the alternate Robotnik. This is tempered by her friendship by Sally, who has repeatedly told her that both incidents aren't her fault and that heroics can be very messy.
Mina's greatest regrets and failures was the death of the copy Tails and the supposed deaths of Sonic and Shadow. Mina believed that the copy Tails could have been saved with her magic, but was reassured that even with Mogul defeated, that Tails would have disappeared. With Sonic and Shadow, Mina misjudged how powerful how powerful the Dial would be and would have tried something else. Both incidents have only spurred her on, vowing to protect everyone she could.
Key themes: Redemption, love, heroism
Main Motivation: To protect her home and to live up to the standard left to her by her fallen friends
Skills:
Basic Skills: Mina has a number of simple skills though living in both Knothole and Castle Acorn as well as working alongside the Freedom Fighters. She is capable of hand-to-hand combat and swordplay as well as a measure in using computers (though she found it boring). She's also capable of cooking, cleaning and other simple housework. She's also an amazing singer.
Robotic Arm: As a result of being touched by Robo-Robotnik/Eggman, Mina's right arm has been roboticized, giving her super strength in that arm. It is also coated in the Source of All's liquid form, granting Mina a boost in magic power and visions of things to come, though she shakes off most visions and uses it more akin to a "Spider-Sense".
Super Speed: When encountering Mammoth Mogul's astral projection, it granted her super speed in an attempt to use her against Sonic. This speed is nowhere near Sonic's level but is fast enough to at least run on water.
Chaos Magic: Thanks to a number of incidents along the way, Mina has a massive pool of Chaos Energy inside her, effectively making her a living Chaos Emerald of sorts. Mina can fire bolts of magic energy and recover from injuries faster than normal. She can also temporarily imbue people with this power, even granting them a Super form, though this weakens her badly. It is possible for Mina to do other things with it, but she has yet to learn these.
Item: The Sword of Acorns, a mystical royal artifact once in possession of the Acorn Family. The full potential of the Sword of Acorns is unknown, but it is known to restore the free will of those brought under brainwashing via magic or mechanical means, can amplify one's magical power. As it is made of the Source of All, it also has its properties, along with a penchant for taking over its users. It should be noted that, while a sword, Mina is a little over two feet tall, so the weapon is tiny to a human.
Sample: "C'mon, c'mon... URGH!" Mina groaned as she slammed her fist on the computer screen before her. She had wanted to ask the train what was going on with her world, if everyone there was safe, but it refused to answer. She needed to know if Mobius was safe, that both Robotniks hadn't taken it over and turn on each other. Why wouldn't the train answer her simple question?
She sighed and made her way down the hallway through the cars. She was a stranger in a strange train, the only Mobian among humans. Though, despite this, many of them were really caring. And, honestly? She loved the strange affection they gave her by petting her like some sort of common house animal.
Right now, though, Mina needed a distraction, thus she made her way to the karaoke machine installed on the train. She was going to sing her blues away and she wouldn't mind the odd audience.
